Title paperwork without guesswork

Get the transfer document right before the OMV visit.

Louisiana vehicle transactions can involve title assignments, bills of sale, acts of donation, odometer information, lien releases, and heirship documents depending on the facts. Rouge handles the notarial documents and helps clients identify the paperwork that should be in hand for the transaction.

The Office of Motor Vehicles controls final title issuance. Rouge does not issue titles, plates, or registrations, but can prepare and notarize the documents that OMV requires or accepts for many common transactions.

Common questions

What clients usually want to know.

Does Rouge issue the new Louisiana title?

No. The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles issues the title. Rouge prepares and notarizes documents used in the title-transfer process.

Can a vehicle be donated instead of sold?

Yes. Louisiana OMV publishes an Act of Donation of a Movable form for vehicle donations, and the transfer still must be completed through OMV.

What if the owner of the vehicle died?

Louisiana law and OMV provide a vehicle heirship procedure. The required paperwork can include proof of death, title information, will information if any, and affidavits from persons with ownership interests.

Should I sign the title before the appointment?

Usually it is better to wait until the signing requirements are confirmed so the assignment and notarization can be completed correctly.
